Every Mehbit Mastercard has been tested against OpenAI’s checkout, and ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and API top-ups all go through. So if a payment does get declined, it’s almost never the card itself — it’s one of two things OpenAI does on their side. Here’s what they are and how to get past them.
1. Your IP needs to be clean
OpenAI checks the network you’re paying from. IP addresses that are known VPN or proxy exits get blocked before the payment is even attempted — you’ll see a generic error, or the payment form simply won’t load.
What to do: pay from a clean connection. Avoid free and public VPNs and shared proxy IPs that OpenAI has already flagged. A residential or otherwise “clean” IP goes through without a fight.
2. $0 promotional / discount offers
This is the one that catches most people.
To stop the same person from claiming a promo — a free trial or a 100%-off offer — over and over, OpenAI ties those offers to your identity. With a personal account and your own personal card, you can claim a 100%-off offer once; you can’t spin up a second account and claim it again on the same identity.
Mehbit cards are issued under our company, and every card shares that same company identity. So when OpenAI is showing you a promotional $0 / 100%-off checkout, that promo can’t be claimed on our cards, and the card is declined right at the $0 step.
This is not a broken card. The card is completely fine — OpenAI is refusing the promo, not the card.
The fix is simple: skip the discounted offer and choose the regular, full-price plan instead. On a standard (non-promotional) subscription, the payment goes through cleanly.
In short
- Mehbit Mastercards work on ChatGPT / OpenAI — all tested.
- A decline is almost always one of two OpenAI-side rules, not the card.
- Pay from a clean (non-VPN) IP.
- If you see a $0 / free promo offer and it declines, pick the normal paid plan — that goes through.
