What is this service?
Databento is a market-data provider for developers, quants and trading teams. Through a single API it delivers historical and real-time data for futures, equities and options from more than 45 exchanges — everything from daily and one-minute bars up to full order-book (L2 and L3) and tick data, with more than 15 years of history on many datasets. Python, C++ and Rust client libraries come with it, and data can be pulled as Databento’s binary format, CSV or JSON.
What makes Databento different from a terminal or a charting app is how you pay. It works like a cloud bill: every dataset is priced per gigabyte, and each month you pay only for the data you actually pulled. On top of that there are subscription plans for live data and deeper history, aimed at individuals and small teams on the entry tier and at firms on the higher ones.
Databento is a US company, and the card on your account is what it charges once a month for whatever you used. A Mehbit virtual Visa or Mastercard, topped up with USDT, can sit on that account like any international card — as long as you keep enough on it when the bill comes due.
Why is payment hard?
Many local bank cards are not authorized for international SaaS billing. Services process payments through Stripe on international rails, so domestic-only cards are often declined even when you have sufficient balance.
Accepted card types
- Virtual Visa
- Virtual Mastercard
- Prepaid
- Debit
- Credit card
- Crypto (direct)
Databento accepts card payments through Stripe for usage-based billing and the Standard plan, and a reloadable Mehbit virtual card was accepted and charged successfully. Databento does not take cryptocurrency, so topping up a Mehbit card with USDT and paying by card is the route.

FAQ
Can I pay for Databento with a virtual Visa or Mastercard?
Yes. Databento takes card payments through Stripe, and we tested it with a real Mehbit card — the payment went through. Issue a Mehbit virtual card, top it up with USDT, add it in your Databento billing settings, and keep it funded for the monthly charge.
When does Databento charge my card?
Once a month, in arrears. The billing cycle is the calendar month, the invoice is available on the first day of the next month, and the card is charged five calendar days after the month ends — for all usage in that month, plus any subscription. Make sure the card holds enough by then.
How do I avoid a surprise bill from usage-based pricing?
Set a monthly limit in Databento’s billing settings and turn on the email notifications. Once your historical usage passes the limit, further historical requests are blocked until the next month. Also check the portal’s price estimate before large requests. Keep in mind the limit does not apply to live data.
Does Databento have a free trial?
Not a time-limited one. New accounts get $125 in free credits for historical data or the first month of a subscription plan; they are shared across your team and expire six months after signup. You still need to add a card at signup, but it is charged only for usage beyond the credits.
Are there restrictions on who can use Databento?
Databento is a US company, and its terms prohibit exporting its data to embargoed countries or their nationals and require you to confirm you are not on US denied-party or sanctions lists. A funded Mehbit card solves the payment step only — whether you are eligible is set by Databento’s terms, so read them before you rely on the service.
Tips
Set a monthly limit under Billing → usage-based access, and make it no higher than what you are willing to keep on the card.
Top up the card before the fifth of each month — that is when Databento charges the previous month’s usage.
Check the price estimate in the portal before submitting a large historical request; per-GB pricing adds up quickly on order-book data.
Prefer a batch download for data you will reuse: it is billed once and can be re-downloaded free for 30 days.
Spend the $125 of free credits first — they cover historical data or part of a first plan month, and expire six months after signup.
The monthly limit does not cover live data. If you stream, keep extra headroom on the card for it.
Keep the Mehbit card active and funded while the account is open: a failed charge puts the account on hold immediately.
Payable with Mehbit virtual cards.
