What is this service?
The X API is the official programmatic access to X, formerly Twitter. It lets your code read posts, users, followers, lists and Spaces, publish posts, send direct messages and manage your own account — the building block behind bots, social-media schedulers, analytics dashboards, research tools and AI agents that work with X data. Access is managed in X’s Developer Console at developer.x.com, where you create a project and an app and get your API keys.
This page is only about paying for API access. It is a different product from X Premium, the personal subscription that gives an account the checkmark and longer posts (it has its own page), and from X Ads, the advertising platform (also its own page, not yet payment-tested by us). Paying for one of them does not give you the others.
X now sells the API on a pay-per-use basis: you buy credits in the Developer Console with a card, and each request draws the balance down. We found no cryptocurrency or local payment option, so an international card is the practical route. A Mehbit virtual Visa or Mastercard, topped up with USDT, is accepted there like any standard international card.
Why is payment hard?
Many local bank cards are not authorized for international SaaS billing. Services process payments through Stripe on international rails, so domestic-only cards are often declined even when you have sufficient balance.

FAQ
Can I pay for the X API with a virtual Visa or Mastercard?
Yes. X sells API credits by card in the Developer Console, and a reloadable Mehbit virtual card works there. We tested it with a real Mehbit card — the payment went through, and it appeared as X DEVELOPER PLATFORM.
How much does the X API cost?
New developers pay per use. As listed on docs.x.com in September 2026: $0.005 per post read, $0.010 per user read, $0.001 per owned-resource read, $0.015 per post created and $0.20 per post with a link. There is no monthly fee; you buy credits upfront. X can change these prices, so check the pricing page before you budget.
Is there still a free X API tier?
Not for new developers. X’s current model is pay-per-use from the first request, and the old Basic and Pro subscriptions are closed to new signups. The cheapest way to start is to buy a small amount of credits and set a spending limit.
What happens when my X API credits run out?
X says the balance can go slightly negative, and then API requests are blocked until you add credits. Turn on auto-recharge in the Developer Console and keep your Mehbit card funded above the recharge amount, or top up manually before the balance runs low.
Is the X API the same as X Premium or X Ads?
No. The X API is developer access to X data and actions. X Premium is a personal subscription for your account, and X Ads is the advertising platform. They are separate products with separate billing — see our X Premium page for that subscription.
Tips
Set a spending limit in the Developer Console before you start. A loop that reads too many posts is charged per resource, and the limit blocks requests instead of charging more.
If you use auto-recharge, keep the Mehbit card funded above the recharge amount. A recharge against an empty card fails, and your API calls stop once the balance runs out.
Buy a small amount of credits first and watch the usage page for a day. Real per-request costs are easier to estimate from your own traffic than from the price list.
Posts with links cost much more to create ($0.20 versus $0.015). If your bot posts links, budget for that.
X API credits do not buy X Premium or X Ads. Each is a separate product billed separately.
