Transport & delivery

Pay for ride-hailing, taxi and food or grocery delivery apps abroad — Yandex Go and Yandex Eats are payment-tested with a Mehbit virtual card.

Transport and delivery apps are the one place where a working foreign card matters while you are standing on a street rather than sitting at a desk. A declined card at home is an inconvenience; a declined card when you are trying to get to an airport is something else.

Yandex Go and Yandex Eats are both payment-tested on a Mehbit card. Because these apps charge at the end of a ride or an order rather than up front, they behave slightly differently from a subscription: the app usually places a small pre-authorisation when you add the card, and the real amount lands afterwards.

That makes the balance the thing to watch. Ride pricing moves with demand, so the fare you are quoted is not always the fare that settles — leave a margin above the expected cost rather than funding the card to the estimate, and add the card in the app before you travel rather than at the moment you need a ride.

Why is payment hard?

Many local bank cards are not authorized for international SaaS billing. Services process payments through Stripe on international rails, so domestic-only cards are often declined even when you have sufficient balance.

FAQ

Which transport and delivery apps are payment-tested?

Yandex Go and Yandex Eats have both had real charges settle on a Mehbit card. Other ride-hailing and delivery apps are not listed here yet because we have not verified them, and we only badge a service once a payment has actually gone through.

Why did the app hold a small amount when I added the card?

That is a pre-authorisation, which ride and delivery apps use to confirm the card is live before you take a trip. It is released rather than charged, but it does need to fit in the available balance at the moment you add the card.

How much should I keep on the card for rides?

More than the quoted fare. Ride pricing moves with demand and the final amount can exceed the estimate, so a card funded to the exact quote can decline at the end of the trip — which is the worst possible moment for it. A modest buffer avoids the problem entirely.

Can I use the card for deliveries while I am travelling?

Yes, and adding it before you travel is the point. The card works wherever the app operates, but adding a new payment method while abroad, on an unfamiliar network, is exactly the situation in which an app is most likely to ask for extra verification.
