What is this service?

Companies House is the UK government’s registrar of companies. Every UK limited company is incorporated there, and every one of them has to keep its public record up to date by filing with it: the annual confirmation statement, changes of directors or registered office, changes of name, and eventually striking the company off. Most of these filings are now done online, through the Companies House services on GOV.UK, and many of them carry a fee.

For founders who run a UK Ltd from outside the UK, Companies House is usually the first and most recurring government payment the company meets. Registering the company costs a fee, and after that the confirmation statement has to be filed at least once a year, with its own fee, for as long as the company exists. Those payments are small, but they are not optional, and missing them puts the company’s standing on the register at risk.

Companies House takes payment for its online services by debit or credit card. A Mehbit virtual Visa or Mastercard, topped up with USDT, works at that payment step like any other international card — useful for business owners abroad who do not yet have a UK bank account or a card issued in the UK.

Why is payment hard?

Many local bank cards are not authorized for international SaaS billing. Services process payments through Stripe on international rails, so domestic-only cards are often declined even when you have sufficient balance.

Accepted card types

  • Virtual Visa
  • Virtual Mastercard
  • Prepaid
  • Debit
  • Credit card
  • Crypto (direct)

Companies House takes debit and credit cards through GOV.UK Pay, and a reloadable Mehbit virtual card was accepted and charged successfully. Companies House does not take cryptocurrency, so topping up a Mehbit card with USDT and paying by card is the route. A working card covers the payment only — registration and filings are decided by Companies House.

FAQ

Can I pay Companies House fees with a virtual Visa or Mastercard?

Yes. Companies House online services take debit and credit cards through GOV.UK Pay, and we tested it with a real Mehbit card — the payment went through. Issue a Mehbit virtual card, top it up with USDT, and pay at the end of the online filing.

How much does it cost to register a UK company and file the confirmation statement?

Under the Companies House fee schedule in force since 1 February 2026, registering a private limited company online costs £100 and filing the confirmation statement online costs £50. Paper filings cost more. Check the GOV.UK fees page for the current figures before you file.

Do I need a UK address to set up a UK company?

The company needs a registered office that is a physical address in the UK, in the same UK country the company is registered in, and PO Boxes are no longer allowed. GOV.UK allows a third-party agent’s address if it meets the rules. The company also needs a registered email address. Your own residential address does not have to be the registered office.

Do directors have to verify their identity with Companies House?

Yes. Since 18 November 2025, directors and people with significant control must verify their identity and provide a Companies House personal code. It is free through GOV.UK One Login, or it can be done from any country through an Authorised Corporate Service Provider, who may charge a fee.

What happens to my payment if a filing is rejected?

Companies House says that when a card-paid incorporation or change of name is rejected, the fee is refunded automatically to the card. Keep the Mehbit card active until the filing has been accepted so any refund has somewhere to land.

Tips

Check the current fee on the GOV.UK Companies House fees page before you file — fees rose on 1 February 2026 and the schedule is revised from time to time.

File online where you can: online fees are lower than paper ones, and the online services are where you pay by card.

Fees are charged in pounds sterling, so fund the dollar-based card with a little headroom for the conversion rate on the day.

Top up the card before you start the filing. Some services time out if left idle, and your answers may not be saved.

The confirmation statement is due at least once a year. Put the date in your calendar so the fee and the filing do not slip.

Have the company number, the company authentication code and every director’s Companies House personal code ready before you open the filing.

Keep the payment confirmation and the filing reference until the filing has been accepted and appears on the public register.

Payable with Mehbit virtual cards.
