What is this service?
Bitwarden is an open-source password manager. It stores your logins, passkeys, notes, and card details in a vault that is encrypted on your device before it ever reaches Bitwarden’s servers, and syncs that vault across your browser, phone, and desktop.
What sets it apart from most competitors is that the client and server code are public and the service is independently audited, so its security claims can be checked rather than taken on trust. It is the default recommendation for people who want a password manager they can verify.
Bitwarden bills through an international card processor from Santa Barbara, California, which is where a local bank card gets declined. A Mehbit virtual Visa or Mastercard, funded with USDT, presents at checkout as an ordinary international card.
Accepted card types

- Crypto (direct)
Reloadable virtual Visa and Mastercard cards work at Bitwarden’s checkout as long as the billing details match. Bitwarden also accepts Bitcoin directly on annual plans, but that is a separate route from paying with a Mehbit card.

Rates may be updated from time to time; the final rate is always shown in the app before you pay.
Why is payment hard?
Many local bank cards are not authorized for international SaaS billing. Services process payments through Stripe on international rails, so domestic-only cards are often declined even when you have sufficient balance.

FAQ
Does Bitwarden accept virtual Visa or Mastercard?
Yes. Bitwarden accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover, and a reloadable virtual Visa or Mastercard works at its checkout as long as the billing name and address match the card. A Mehbit card was accepted by Bitwarden’s processor on 2026-08-28.
Do I need to pay for Bitwarden at all?
Often not. The free tier includes unlimited passwords synced across unlimited devices and is a permanent plan rather than a trial. Premium is worth it mainly for the built-in TOTP authenticator, emergency access, and vault health reports.
How much does Bitwarden Premium cost?
Around $10 per year for an individual, and around $40 per year for a Families plan covering up to six people. Business plans are billed per user per month. Prices are set by Bitwarden and can change, so check the current rate at checkout.
Bitwarden accepts Bitcoin — why use a card?
Bitwarden does take cryptocurrency directly on annual plans, so that is a genuine option. A card is simpler if you already hold a Mehbit card, if you want the charge on the same card as your other subscriptions, or if you are paying for a monthly business plan where the crypto route is not offered.
Why was my Bitwarden payment declined?
The most common cause is an unfunded card at the moment the renewal is attempted. Top up before the renewal date rather than on it. Mismatched billing details are the next most common cause — make the name and address on your Bitwarden account match the card.
Can Mehbit pay Bitwarden for me?
Yes. If the card keeps getting declined, request a proxy payment in the Mehbit app and we pay Bitwarden on your behalf.
Tips
Check whether you actually need Premium before paying. The free tier syncs unlimited passwords across unlimited devices, and a lot of people upgrade for a feature they never use. Paying $10 for the TOTP authenticator is a good deal; paying it out of habit is not.
Prefer the annual charge over letting it lapse. Bitwarden Premium bills once a year, which means one funded moment per year rather than twelve — easier to plan around than a monthly subscription, but also easier to forget.
Keep the card funded ahead of the renewal date, not on it. The renewal charge is attempted automatically, and a card that is short at that moment is declined even if you top it up an hour later.
Match the billing name and address on your Bitwarden account to your card details. Card processors run AVS checks, and consistent billing information reduces the chance of a declined or flagged payment.
Never store your Bitwarden master password inside Bitwarden, and set up emergency access or an export before you rely on the vault for everything. This is a payments guide, but the recovery advice matters more than the payment method.
